Key Elements of Field Hockey:
- Objective: Score by hitting the ball into the opponent's goal.
- Stick: Players use a curved field hockey stick with a flat side to dribble,
pass, and
shoot.
- Field: Played on a smaller field than soccer, with goals at each end.
- Players: Teams consist of 11 players, including a goalkeeper.
- Duration: Games are typically played in two 35-minute halves.
- Positions: Teams are typically organized with forwards, midfielders,
defenders, and a
goalkeeper.
- Scoring: Goals are scored when the ball is hit from within the shooting
circle (an arc in
front of the goal).
- Penalties: Fouls within the shooting circle can result in a penalty stroke
(a free
one-on-one shot on goal) or a penalty corner.
- Rules: Players can only use the flat side of their stick to play the ball,
and there are
rules about dangerous play and obstructing opponents.
